Journalist Katy Gillett has launched a Substack newsletter aimed at freelancers working across the media industry in the Middle East.
Desert Prose aims to help fellow freelancers with their careers and connect them with commissioning editors at regional publications.
“The ethos behind this newsletter is to help other people like me make a serious career out of freelancing in the Middle East,” Katy said. “I will offer my advice and gather tips from my fellow local freelancers whom regional editors are returning to time and again. I will also speak to those editors and learn more about what pitches grab their attention and what turns them off.
“At the same time, I want commissioners to join the community so they can come across more reliable freelancers, but also learn more about how they can get the best out of us to make their own lives easier.”
