An English language digital news service launched from Egypt this week covering developments in the Middle East, Africa, the Nile Basin, and the Horn of Africa region.
Q News streams news bulletins and documentary programmes on YouTube and the video-on-demand platform WATCH IT for four hours daily from 4pm to 8pm Cairo time.
It has been launched by United Media Services Company (UMS) and incorporates elements and staff from sister Arabic channel Al-Qahera News, while maintaining its own identity.
Ahmed El-Taheri, Head of News Channels at UMS, said Q News will focus on digital platforms rather than traditional broadcasting, with the 4-8pm broadcast window chosen due to its suitability for audiences in multiple international capitals.
The channel plans to increase broadcasts to between eight and 10 hours in the first quarter of 2025, followed by a third phase providing 24-hour broadcasting.
Established in 2016, UMS is one of the largest media conglomerates in the Arab World - with over 40 subsidiaries in various media fields such as visual, audio, print, electronic media, dramatic production, advertising, and direct and indirect advertising services.
