How to Pitch: Ohlala!

November 22, 2015 Consumer Magazines

Following the recent launch of an Abu Dhabi edition of fashion and lifestyle magazine Ohlala! - joining the title's Bahrain, Qatar and Arabic editions - MediaSource spoke with Bahrain-based Editor in Chief, Georgie Bradley, about the magazines and the best way for PRs to get their stories featured.

What topics do you cover in Ohlala!?

We cover fashion, beauty, food, health and travel. Our target audience is expats and locals alike who have a love of luxury lifestyle.

What is the best way to pitch a story to you?

A pitch with a strong visual component works best. We strive for striking images above all else. We also love to interview pioneering women making waves in the fashion industry and are perhaps under the radar. An informed pitch that is clearly in tune with what we produce will get noticed. We have a lot of shared content between the titles, mainly fashion and beauty, but we also have local editorial for each specific country.

What kind of pitch catches your eye?

Something with a Middle Eastern hook. Although we cover a lot of fashion and beauty from the West, we still have to be mindful of the fact that we are in the Middle East.

Who from your team should PRs contact when pitching a story?

You can email myself in Bahrain, Sofia Graniello in Qatar, or Angela Beitz in Abu Dhabi.

What should PRs bear in mind when contacting you with information?

It's small things like captions, correct names and product images in high resolution.

In what ways can PR/journalist relationships be improved?

I always really appreciate it when PRs personalise their emails. I understand there is a 'mass send' element to PR but when I receive really irrelevant material it just goes straight in the bin. The way the relationship could improve would be for PRs to take the time to understand each publication and what its journalists are after.
