Global news brand Semafor is launching a Gulf edition featuring original reporting and a thrice-weekly newsletter examining the region’s transformation, and how its financial, business and geopolitical decisions shape the world.
Former Bloomberg editor Mohammed Sergie has been appointed Editor of Semafor Gulf and will be joining the site next month ahead of its launch on 16 September.
“Every week, Semafor Gulf will explore the key events shaping the Arabian Peninsula and the world, filling the gaps between new money, old power, and the changing culture driving the region’s trajectory and global influence,” he said.
“Our primary focus is the ‘money story’ - examining how business, economics, and finance influence the Gulf both internally and externally. You can also expect insights into emerging areas such as startups, tourism, technology, and strategies for economic diversification.”
Semafor Gulf will launch with a team of staff reporters, as well as columnists covering Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
“We are excited to share that Semafor will launch in the Middle East this September, marking a major milestone in our global expansion strategy,” said New York-based founder, Justin B. Smith. “The platform will serve as a fresh, new destination for regional audiences, delivering Semafor’s signature independent, intelligent and transparent journalism to leaders in the Gulf and around the world.”
