Qatar’s beIN Media Group has acquired full ownership of Miramax, the Santa-Monica, California-based production studio behind critically acclaimed films Good Will Hunting and Pulp Fiction.
Selling shareholders include Qatar Investment Authority and Colony Capital.
According to a statement from the Doha-based broadcaster, Miramax will continue operating as an independent film and television studio.
Founded in 1979 by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Miramax is best known for its extensive film library of over 700 titles which include Bridget Jones's Diary, the Scream film franchise, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, and The Aviator.
Under the new ownership, Miramax will invest in and co-distribute several upcoming projects in both film and television, among them Bad Santa 2, Bridget Jones’s Baby, Southside With You, and The 9th Life of Louis Drax, as well as television show From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.
