Ahmad Swaid has been appointed Editor in Chief of ITP Media Group’s soon-to-launch regional edition of British youth and pop culture magazine Dazed.
Dazed MENA will introduce its digital and social channels later this month, with the magazine’s first quarterly print issue due in winter 2024, covering youth culture, fashion, style and culture in the Middle East.
Swaid, who was previously editor-in-chief at GQ Middle East at ITP, also worked for Dazed Media in the UK between 2016 and 2022.
“Dazed was the place that empowered me for over five years, it is where I rose through the ranks and to be at the helm of its arrival in the region I am from and I grew up in feels full circle,” he said. “It is an honour and a dream come true. Empowering talent is at the heart of what Dazed MENA is -together we are creating a collective vision that champions youth and creativity across the region, diaspora and to create a cultural exchange on a global scale.”
Other key appointments include Paris-based stylist Omaima Salem as fashion director; Mohamed Al Kindi, a multidisciplinary artist from Oman, as creative director; Sarra Alayyan as deputy editor; and Egyptian journalist Fady Nageeb as content director.
“Launching Dazed MENA is a landmark moment for us and a significant step in Dazed’s global expansion strategy and digital transformation,” says Jefferson Hack, CEO and founder of Dazed Media. “A quarter of the region’s population is made up of young people. Dazed MENA will no doubt become a major platform for millions of undiscovered voices and ideas - supporting the next generation through the stories we'll tell and partnerships we’ll create.”
